It was when I was in university that I first discovered a love for gem stones, I was using them in my jewellery but didn't know much about them, I started to use them with the jewellery I was making at home and the more I used them the more I realized I liked them and there qualities, I couldn't believe that these beautiful beads and stones come from the earth as 'natural gems' so I decided to learn a bit more about them.
Rocks and minerals can be found everywhere-from the ground we walk on to the buildings we live in. They are often dug up, formed and polished for our enjoyment either as ornaments or jewellery etc.. I like to use them in my work as I like all things natural and the fact that these beautiful beads come from the ground amazes me.
Many people believe that gem stones have mystical properties, this too interests me and influences the stones I work with in my jewellery.
Here are some of the mystical meanings to the stones I use:
Amethyst
Appearance: Purple to Violet.
Zodiac: Pisces or Aquarius.
Position: Place over throat or heart.
Warning: Amethyst fades in sunlight.
Thought to be one of the great healing stones. It is believed that when placed under you pillow helps with insomnia and nightmares. Amethyst is one of the most powerful spiritual of stones, it is said to balance emotions, it dispels anger, rage, fear and anxiety and promotes love and calm.
Rose Quartz
Appearance: Pink.
Zodiac: Taurus, but all sings are thought to benefit from its energies.
Position: Placed over the heart.
Rose Quartz is the stone of unconditional love and infinite peace, it promotes peace, harmony and calm, it is said to draw love towards the person who wears it, this stone works particularly well with amethyst.
Jade
Appearance: Green.
Zodiac: Virgo.
Position: Anywhere on the body.
Held to be a sacred stone in many cultures. Thought to promote a long life and have a re-juvinating effect on the body.
Flourite
Appearance: Purple, Green, Clear.
Zodiac: Pisces.
Position: Earlobes.
Flourite is said to be a highly protective stone it draws off negative energy and stress of all kinds. It is extremely effective against computer and electromagnetic stress.
Snowflake Obsidian
Appearance: Black with snowflake like markings.
Zodiac: Capricorn.
Position:Anywhere on th body.
Snowflake obsidian helps calm and soothes the body, it is a stone of purity, providing balance for the body, mind and spirit.
Agate
Appearance: Green.
Zodiac: Gemini.
Position: Anywhere on the body.
Agates are said to be grounding stones, bringing out an emotional, physical and intellectual balance, it harmonizes the yin and yang. This is also a calming soothing stone.
